fire useing pine

is there a easer way to get not free batton from pine.the way im doing it is to fined a standing dead pine and working from the bottom cuting away the branches then sawing ether side of the nodes (were the branches join the tree) to get nice batons to split and fether for tinder and kindeling and as mian fule.
