any one got any tips on how to do and what to use
i have used a base bored of fury vine and dog rose spindel iv got dust and smoke but no coal

Hmm... I'm no expert on the bow drill but it sounds to me like the materials are not suitable.. the only time I've managed to get a good coal was with a Pine base board, Oak hand block and a beech spindle.. with this I had a coal in seconds.. maybe give it a try :)
There are no Wrong ways of doing things...
only alternative methods that don't work.....

Hmmm... the dust you have.. is it gritty? fine?
when you take the base board away does the dust sit in a pile or blow away?

I ask as it helps to narrow down the problems

iv gave up on the dog rose and the whole long spindel my hands are to soft got some nastey blisters but looking for a way around it and whet for elder spindel and base bord usesing a indanthong tecneek this works and is not over difficult cach me on you tube user name justinjungel thank for the repliy
