do you find that with this set up the water runs into your hammock when it rains? I've opted for a 3m long tarp for use with my hammock or using my Basha corner to corner.. and very close to the hammock..

the desert basha is not designed for use with a hammock, i have not had a problem with rain as yet, i only use this setup when out in my permitted woodland that is on an incline or when i am out with the scouts.

the rest of the time i am on the floor with a roll matt especialy on courses

yeah I know it's not designed for that use, but I see you have made it do ;)

I've also found in my own experiance that the lower you set your hammock the warmer it apears to be.. not quite sure why though.. but you do also have to be careful that it's not so low that the rain will bounce up to it ;)

ever tried using an underblanket? great things!

underblanket? i have a zipped section for my roll mat to go in, the hammock looks high in the pic but the top of the basha is only 1.2m off the deck ;), like i said i only use it when out with the scouts or in my woods, most of the time i am on the ground

Yeah an underblanket is like half a sleeping bag that attaches to the underside of the hammock, the thorey is..

when you lie on a sleeping bag you compress the insulation making it next to useless, on the ground you use a sleeping mat to compensate for this, in a hammock most people don't bother, but they soon find that it can get cold at night as the cold air is blowing accross their back and removing body heat.. SO.. in steps the Underblanket.. clip the blanket to the underside of teh hammock, and you instantly add the insulation you lost from compressing your sleeping bag, plus you have an area of warm air trapped below you.
the blanket should idealy be water proofed and to a good degree wind resistant, to minimise loss of heat. When using this system you can reduce the size of sleeping bag required and therefore the amount of weight and pack size.

hope it helps you
